Reuse of Soil?

As reported in the Chicago Tribune this morning, environmentalists are urging the city council to delay the passage of a law that would allow construction companies to reuse soil.

"Chicago environmental activists urged the city Sunday to delay approval of a
proposal that would allow crews to reuse soil from construction sites even if
the dirt contains lead, arsenic, benzene and other chemicals."
The reuse of soil could be harmful to the environment for several reasons. The city council should definitely rethink the law so as to ensure the safety of Chicago citizens.

Catholic Teaching and the Environment

Many people believe Catholics care more about serving the poor than helping the environment. However, this is simply not true! In fact, the Church has many teachings in the Catechism about the importance of being good stewards of the Earth.

Also, Pope John Paul II made many statements on this issue. He once said, "Hey man, take care of the environment!" Therefore, as Catholics, it is important that we take care of the environment.
